Seismic Stability and Design of Wide-Flange Columns in Steel Frame Structures

My research project focuses on the evaluation of the stability of wide flange steel columns used in steel framed structures under seismic loading. The behaviour of such members with and without the base connection is examined using full-scale experimental testing and hybrid simulation where the column is physically tested in the lab and the rest of the frame is numerically modelled in the computer. In addition to various cross-sections and global slenderness ratios, special attention is given to the effect of end conditions on the behaviour of such members, where specimens with nearly rigid base condition and with a base connection will be evaluated.
