Improving the Design and Constructibility of Steel/Reinforced Concrete Connections
Caine completed his undergraduate degree in the department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta, then moved to the Civil Engineering department to complete his master's degree in 2019. Caine's research is part of an ongoing program on the standardization of embedded plates for steel/reinforced concrete connections. The current research pertains to precast plates with welded headed studs loaded perpendicularly to the concrete edge. The standardization project will improve the efficiency of the design and construction process, as well as ensure the safety of said designs. Currently, Caine is in the literature review stages of his research, examining the effects of reinforcement on embedded plate capacities, as well as the effect of moment transfer through eccentric shear loads.
